About the position

The Water Auditor Technician educates the utility billing customers about water usage and conservation issues by responding to high bill complaints, requests for meter tests and leak assistance.  Assists in keeping other Meter's group members productive. 

Hourly Rate  $23.26 - $31.42 Hourly
 
Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity.  

Essential Functions

  • Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following: 
    Inspects sites and buildings to diagnose and trouble-shoot reasons for high water usage.
  • Performs quick calculations to assist the public in understanding their utility statements and water usage to resolve a complaint.
  • Drives a city vehicle to respond to high bill complaints and leak assistance calls received in Utility Billing.
  • Advises and educates the public of possible or potential water usage and conservation issues.
  • Collects and distributes to the public various information relating to city utilities.
  • Prepares routine correspondence to customers.
  • Provides assistance to the Water/Wastewater Operations Supervisor and Water Meter Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

 Education and Experience:

  • A High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • One year of training and experience with public contact and meter reading procedures and practices resolving various levels of customer concerns.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.  The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Must possess within six months of hire or promotion and maintain a Grade 1 Operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) within the discipline of Water Distribution.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the city, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Some work is performed in a city office environment, with regular work performed for site visits.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes and unpleasant odors.
  • Bend, stoop, climb elevations, access paved, gravel and turf areas.
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely requiring visual and muscular dexterity.
  • Operate various field tools.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Drives city vehicles, including a heavy-duty pickup and a right-side driven Jeep, while maintaining constant vigilance to the road and surrounding area.
