Job Description:
Performs various functions in support of Washington Water's systems. The Utility Operator I is responsible for field operations and maintenance work and performs relief work under various classifications. The position works under direct supervision and requires the Utility Operator I to be independent, use good judgement, take initiative, and maintain an effective working relationship with others. This position is located in Puyallup Washington, East Pierce office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform customer service activities, turn water service on and off at the customer's residence; respond to customer complaints and prepare reports.
- Perform water meter maintenance and repair; replace or install water meters.
- Perform maintenance of water meter boxes; replace, clean, install, and repair water meter boxes and lids.
- Perform general clean-up of ground and facilities.
- Performs relief work under various classifications.
- Perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
- Perform traffic control procedures.
- Perform installations, maintenance, and repair of water service lines, water mains, pumps, and valves.
- Perform inspections, cleaning and basic service of assigned equipment.
- Operate system valves as required.
- Operate fire hydrants to flush the water system and check pressure.
- Participates in and supports the Company's Continuous Improvement program and projects.
- Assists with above and below ground construction as required.
- Flushes and services water mains.
- Completes necessary paperwork.
- Serve as an on-call responder on a rotation basis.
- Cleans and repairs reservoirs.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid WA state driver's license.
- Construction or plumbing experience or equivalent to a laborer or apprentice.
- Water Utility experience desired.
- Utility Operator I with a Water Distribution Manager I certification and Cross Connection certification required.
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office applications.
- First Aid Card (required within one year of employment).
Salary Range: $46,200 - $82,800
- Utility Worker (no certification) $20.00 - $33.02
- Utility Operator 1 (Washington State Water Distribution Manager 1 AND Cross Connection Control Specialist certifications required) $22.11 - $39.42
- Utility Operator 2 (Washington State Water Distribution Manager 2 AND Cross Connection Control Specialist certifications required) $26.10 - $47.59
- Utility Operator 2 (Washington State Water Distribution Manager 3 AND Cross Connection Control Specialist certifications required) $26.10 - $47.59
