About the Position
Coordinates and schedules skilled crews as well as performs a variety of journeyman level work in maintaining and repairing the City's water, wastewater distribution, collection and treatment facilities, including all mechanical and fabrication aspects of related equipment and machinery.
Essential Functions
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
- Performs maintenance and/or additions to the water transmission and distribution system. Maintains water mains, fire hydrants, valves and water services.
- Maintains pumps, tanks, switches, diesel and natural gas generators at City well sites, booster stations, reservoirs and lift stations. Performs maintenance and control work on chlorination equipment, various pressure control devices and adjusts the system to met specific demands.
- Operates high velocity sewer cleaning truck; adjusts manhole covers and performs main line sewer repairs, depending on assignment.
- Performs construction and fabrication at work sites.
- Adjusts telemetry system to meet water and wastewater usage demands.
- Communicates goals of the division/department; assists in the development of plans and measurement for evaluation; and provides information for the evaluation of the performance of personnel. Observes and monitors performance to determine compliance with all prescribed operating and safety practices.
- Repairs and maintains all types of valves, pumps and equipment, including chlorinators, evaporators, electric and hydraulic valves, blowers and fans.
- Repairs, maintains and modifies complex chemical feed systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent and three years experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of water, wastewater or distribution or collection systems equipment and machinery. Depending on job duties, must be able to demonstrated welding ability at a journeyman's level with at least two years experience in steel piping fabrication.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
All Assignments:
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Depending on job discipline obtain one of the following:
Water Assignment:
- Must possess upon hire or promotion, and maintain a Grade II operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the disciplines of Water Treatment or Water Distribution.
Wastewater Assignment:
- Must possess upon hire or promotion, and maintain a Grade II operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the disciplines of Wastewater Treatment or Wastewater Collections.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.
