About the position

The role involves analyzing water samples for compliance, maintaining Quality Control records, and preparing reports for State and Federal agencies. You'll use various techniques for sample analysis, stay updated on regulations, participate in peer reviews and audits, and follow safety procedures.

Salary: $68,057.60 - $91,956.80 Annually

Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. 

Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Analyzes compliance and process samples as dictated by present and future regulations, including Drinking Water, Wastewater, Pretreatment and Superfund programs.
  • Maintains all Quality Control records in accordance with Federal and State regulations and Laboratory Quality Assurance Manual.
  • Analyzes samples for microbiology, inorganic and organic parameters using microbiological techniques, classical chemistry, organic extractions, metals digestions, IC, TOC or per EPA or Standard Methods.  May receive training on additional instrumentation including PCR, GC, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP and ICP/MS.  Perform any required sample prep and any other miscellaneous duties.
  • Prepares compliance reports to meet requirements for the State and Federal agencies.  Interprets analysis results and informs supervisor if problem exists.
  • Keeps current with all new methods, rules and regulations and implement new requirements.
  • Participates in 100% peer data review.  Participates in annual State audit.
  • Follows and promotes all safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelors' Degree in chemistry, microbiology or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:

  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  •  Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
