The Water Supervisor is a full-time professional position in the City's Supervisory and Professional Employees' Association.  The Water Supervisor, plans and supervises the daily operations of the City's Water Section as well as plans and supervises the installation, construction and maintenance of the City water distribution system, pumping and equipment maintenance operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or GED and four (4) years increasingly responsible experience in water distribution and treatment including one (1) year supervisory or related lead work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid drivers license and a Grade III Water Distribution Certificate issued by the California Department of Health Services are also required.

Testing Process:
The testing process for this particular recruitment will consist of a structured, technical oral interview (weighted 100% for eligible list placement). The oral interview is tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 11, 2017.  Candidates who pass the selection process are placed on an eligibility list in ranked order. Eligibility lists are normally valid for one year. The list may be extended to fill subsequent vacancies.

In addition to the stated salary, the City currently provides a generous benefits package, including a 4/10 work schedule with every Friday off; CalPERS retirement (2% @ 60 for "classic" members and 2% @ 62 for new CalPERS members);  up to $161.65 per month for optical/dental/Life and AD&D insurance; $50,000 life insurance policy; optional participation in a Section 125 Flex plan and generous paid leave banks.**
**The Supervisory and Professional Employees' Association is currently in negotiations with the City. Salary, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment may be subject to change.

Under general supervision, plans and supervises the daily operations of the City Water Section; plans and supervises the installation, construction and maintenance of the City water distribution system, pumping and equipment maintenance operations.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans, schedules, supervises, monitors and inspects the construction, maintenance, operation and replacement of City water facilities, equipment and systems; insures safe and efficient distribution of water; complies with State and Federal regulations regarding water system operations; insures all maintenance and repairs on all facilities and equipment are performed; inspects the work of contractors; insures necessary material, supplies and equipment are available through inventory management.

Responds to citizen complaints and determines appropriate corrective action; coordinates activities with other City staff in resolving complaints.

Reviews plans, specifications and blueprints for proposed development to insure compliance with City rules, policies and code regulations; communicates with engineering staff and inspectors.

Reviews water sample lab reports for water quality, bacteriological sampling and makes recommendations for corrective action as necessary; monitors cross-connection control program, including site surveys, backflow devise testing and reporting.

Maintains records and logs of work performed, equipment and staffing usage; prepares reports; prepares and administers the Water Section budget.

Recommends hiring, trains, assigns, reviews and evaluates work of assigned staff; initiates corrective and/or disciplinary action; responds to grievances; initiates termination following established personnel policies and procedures and in consultation with the Public Works Director and Human Resources.
